Water - WIRS

The Water Industry Registration Scheme - often referred to as WIRS - was introduced by Lloyds Register to act as a nationwide quality standard for self-lay organisations.

Turriff is working towards WIRS accreditation, and all of Turriff's operatives working on water projects are fully trained and possess the relevant certification. For utilities and developers working on projects throughout Britain, WIRS is often viewed as a fundamental requirement for contractors working on new build water mains and connections.

Achieving WIRS status is far from straightforward. A contractor has to submit a detailed dossier covering every facet of its operations including risk statements, health and safety, quality procedures and much more. Turiff provided almost 150 different documents in its WIRS submission which was audited by Lloyds Register. Lloyds Register's auditors also visited Turriff to verify that the company was implementing the correct policies and practices on site.
